Built for the Scrum, Facilities that go the distance
For over 70 years, rugby has been played at Union Park in west Edinburgh. Since 1950, Corstorphine Cougars has grown into a well-established community club, supporting generations of players and becoming a key part of the city’s sporting landscape.
A Growing Club with Evolving Needs
In recent years, participation at Corstorphine has increased significantly, with more junior players, expanding women’s teams, and a busy fixture schedule driving activity throughout the week. This growth placed added pressure on the club’s facilities. The existing changing rooms, while heavily used and well maintained, were no longer meeting the demands of modern sport. Years of constant use, cleaning, and footfall had taken its toll. The club required an upgrade that could support increased usage while preserving the welcoming, community-focused environment that defines the Cougars.
A Clear and Practical Brief
The objective was to deliver changing facilities that could meet the demands of a modern rugby club.
The solution needed to
- Withstand heavy daily use
- Maintain high standards of hygiene
- Provide a clean and consistent aesthetic
- Deliver reliable, long-term performance
This wasn’t about cosmetic improvement. It was about future-proofing a key part of the club’s infrastructure.
A Robust, Performance-Led Solution
To meet these requirements, a durable and efficient system was specified, centred around the RapidFit cubicle range in compact grade. Chosen for its strength, moisture resistance, and longevity, compact grade material is well suited to high-traffic sports environments. The modular RapidFit system allowed for a streamlined installation process, with components supplied in standard sizes and adapted on site to achieve a precise fit. This approach ensured both speed of delivery and a high-quality, tailored finish.
Attention to Detail
Long-term performance was a key consideration throughout the project. Compact grade panels provide excellent resistance to moisture and impact, while FSC-certified materials support responsible sourcing. Heavy-duty ironmongery was selected to ensure durability and minimise ongoing maintenance. Each element was chosen to create a cohesive system that balances performance with a clean, modern appearance.
Efficient Delivery On Site
The project was carefully coordinated to minimise disruption to the club’s busy schedule. Materials were prepared and delivered ready for installation, supported by clear documentation and organised logistics. This allowed the installation to progress efficiently, with minimal impact on day-to-day activities. Training sessions continued. Matches went ahead. The club remained fully operational throughout.
The Finished Result
The completed changing facilities provide a brighter, cleaner, and more professional environment for players, coaches, and visitors. The new space supports the club’s growth while delivering a durable, low-maintenance solution built for long-term use. Just as importantly, it reflects the pride and standards of the club both on and off the pitch. For younger players in particular, the message is clear this is a club that invests in its people and its future.
