Environmental Policy

At Rearo we are proud of our heritage. As a family business based in the breathtaking Shetland Isles since 1974, we have a real sense of belonging and are wonderfully proud of our home.

With our roots firmly planted in such a rural setting, we are perhaps more aware than most of our surroundings and the effects climate change could have on our environment.

ISO 14001 accreditation is actively in place but we do so much more than the minimum and we want to play our part in safeguarding the planet to the best of our ability.

Having recently established our own internal environmental committee, voluntary individuals from each department/ brand location are working together to implement environmental information regulations company wide, whilst also introducing our own detailed guidance and strategies.

Rearo environmental ethos

Our goal is to foster partnerships that will assist in the reduction of our carbon output, creating a more transparent chain of custody and reduce the impact which our operation has on the local and global environment

Reduce, Re-use, Recycle

As a UK based manufacturer, we are working collectively with zero waste Scotland to actively improve the sustainable development of our practices, actively reducing the waste we generate and re-purposing that which is created.

Within our Glasgow Manufacturing facility, more than 90% of our waste is now recycled or re-used.

Only 1.5% of items from our general waste are not recyclable and will go to landfill. For that which can be recycled, including our wood by-products and laminates, new uses include childerns’ play areas, decorative landscaping or equestrian bedding, as well as our online sample service.

By 2024 we hope to further improve on this and have set the goal to have our outputs to landfill reduced to below 1%.

Careful selection of raw materials

Over the last few years we have become increasingly aware of the materials that we purchase and want to ensure that they, where possible, have been sourced from environmentally friendly suppliers.

The primary raw materials that we use include decorative laminates, a choice of core substrates including MR MDF, Plywood and MF chipboard, as well as solid surface materials.

For this reason, we have condensed our supply chain and have also created dedicated laminate selections, alongside our Head of Design, for all of our domestic and commercial work going forward - reducing the potential for waste and time lines to supply to customers.

Carbon footprint

Made in the UK

A majority of our core product ranges and all commercial items are produced within our 67,000+ sq ft manufacturing facility in Govan, Glasgow. Here we have a team of around 70 skilled staff and apprentices who operate our state of the art machinery on a daily basis.

By producing within the UK we can monitor our products from start to finish, allowing us to detail every step of its journey and promise a quicker turnaround. This also allows us to gaurantee the steps made in reducing waste during production in our wall panel, washroom and worktop ranges.

Delivery and fuel usage

By manufacturing within the UK and solely delivery to the UK mainland we are also able to decrease the amount of miles that our products have to travel.

With a dedicated transport centre within our Glasgow HQ and coordinated delivery schedule across our branches, Rearo is able to monitor every step of our delivery process to customers both on site and at home.

Each of our branches have been placed in central locations where it is felt they have the largest travel capacity and can best fulfil their local area. Based on orders a tailored plan will be made each day by our staff to create a delivery schedule which services our customers but also minimise fuel emissions from the company.

Where possible, in areas outwith our reach, courier services are used.

All Rearo vans use the safer option of Diesel and similarly to the choice we have made with forklifts within our Glasgow HQ we will be looking to electric energy in the future.
